Science for Everyone – Mapping Wisconsin from Space

April 18, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Jim Lacy, State Cartographer’s Office, University of Wisconsin-Madison

In August 2016, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources finished a statewide project to map the current vegetation, water, and urban patterns of Wisconsin. The resulting digital “land cover” map will be used by DNR for managing natural resources for many years in the future. Jim will discuss how images from satellites orbiting the earth hundreds of miles in space were used to create these maps, and how mapping technologies have evolved over the years.

$5 donation appreciated. No pre-registration required
